‘Hercules’ Voice Actress Susan Egan Nominates Zendaya & Tom Holland For Live-Action Remake: “The World Needs It” — D23

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day a super box office success, Tom Holland and Zendaya might just have their next classic hero adaptation.

Speaking with Deadline on the red carpet Sunday at D23, Hercules (1997) voice actress Susan Egan nominated Zendaya to take over her role as Meg in a live-action remake of the Disney animated classic, with Holland accompanying her as the Greek demigod.

“I mean, I’ve been subtly saying Zendaya, but now I’m just gonna say it,” she said of her choice. “And probably, Tom and Zendaya, who I have never met, are filing for the restraining order right now. But honestly, I don’t even care. I feel like the world needs it.”

Egan continued, “Not even because they are the ‘it’ couple right now, it’s not even that. I have watched her beautiful career from when she was a teenager, and she’s just grounded. She is a strong woman, obviously, statuesque and amazing, with an incredible voice and a little edge, don’t you think?”

Having starred together in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), the couple has made nearly $6B for Disney. Meanwhile, their summer appearance in The Odyssey (2026) has recently surpassed $1.29B.

With a live-action remake of Hercules going into development at Disney in 2020, Guy Ritchie was tapped to direct in 2022.
