SXSW Thriller ‘And Her Body Was Never Found’ Heads To TIFF Market

EXCLUSIVE: U.S. sales firm Mavryk has acquired worldwide rights ahead of the TIFF market to sell And Her Body Was Never Found, the experimental thriller that world-premiered at SXSW this year.

The film marks the feature directorial debut of Polaris Banks who co-wrote the script with Mor Cohen, who co-stars opposite him.

The story follows Jeff and Keren, “a married couple who head into the wilderness hoping to repair a relationship worn down by years of fighting, only to fall straight into another one. When a comment about how easily an accident could happen stops sounding like a joke, the film breaks its own frame and turns into something else entirely.”

“Many artists call their work ‘their baby,’ but And Her Body Was Never Found might fit that description better than any other film. It truly is half my dark side and half Mor’s twisted into one strand of monstrous DNA,” said Banks. “We’re so grateful to have Mavryk on board because Greg [Bekkers] is committed to only taking on films he believes in. He really gets why this movie is special and why general audiences will be excited by it. We can trust him with our monster baby.”

“Polaris and Mor made a film that nobody else could have made” said Bekkers of Mavryk. “That’s the whole reason I took it. Buyers keep telling me they want distinctive genre with a real story behind it, and this one is both. We’re going out with all rights available and we expect it to travel.”

The film is produced by Hilarion Banks, Polaris Banks and Mor Cohen. Tristan Barr, Josh Doke, Jonathan Barkan and David Gim serve as executive producers.

Mavryk’s TIFF slate will also include Connie Nielsen thriller Follow Me and All Happy Families with Josh Radnor.
