‘The Housewife’ Star Naomi Watts To Be Honored At San Sebastián Film Festival

The San Sebastián Film Festival said Monday that it will bestow two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts with the Spanish fest’s Donostia Award this year, to be followed by the screening there of her new film The Housewife.

The award is presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions to the film world. It will be handed out September 19 at a gala ceremony in the Kursaal, where Watts will introduce her latest film.

The Housewife, directed by Ben Shirinian and written by Alyssa Hill, is based on a true story and set in 1964, when a young journalist who tracks down a potential Nazi officer living secretly in New York and befriends the suspect’s charming wife. Tye Sheridan, Luke Evans, Michael Imperioli and Lena Olin also star.

The film will have its world premiere earlier in September at the Toronto Film Festival.

Watts scored her Best Actress Oscar nominations for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s 21 Grams in 2004 and J.A. Bayona’s The Impossible in 2013. Her film credits also include David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive (2001), King Kong (2005) and the Oscar-winning Birdman (2014). She previously came to San Sebastián in 2009 to with the closing-night film Mother & Child.

This year’s San Sebastián Film Festival runs September 18-26.
