We now have a cause of death for Rocky Horror Picture Show actor Tim Curry.
Documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health obtained by People reveal Curry died of coronary artery disease. A history of stroke and kidney cancer were listed as other significant conditions that contributed to his death, but did not result in the underlying cause of death.
The document also stated that he had not undergone any surgeries for coronary artery disease, kidney cancer or history of stroke, according to People.
Curry, who shot to stardom in his signature role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, died August 25 at his home in L.A.’s Toluca Lake neighborhood at the age of 80.
A three-time Tony Award nominee, Curry had been in precarious health since suffering a major stroke in 2012.
Following Rocky Horror, Curry appeared in Stephen Frears’ television production of Three Men in a Boat alongside Monty Python’s Michael Palin. He went on to play Dadaist Tristan Tzara in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Tom Stoppard’s Travesties, which ran in both the West End and on Broadway through 1976.
Curry also starred in the six-part UK television series The Life & Times of William Shakespeare, portraying the Bard from a young man through to his death. And while Rocky Horror was gaining traction on U.S. screens, Curry was cast in the film The Shout with Alan Bates and John Hurt.
Also on the film side, Curry was known for his role as Rooster Hannigan in 1982’s Annie, the butler Wadsworth in 1985’s Clue and Long John Silver in 1996’s Muppet Treasure Island.
