Canada’s Precious Metal Productions & Black Fawn Distribution Strike Genre Slate Deal – TIFF

EXCLUSIVE: and Black Fawn Distribution, two of Canada’s buzziest indie film companies, are joining forces on a three-picture genre slate.

Precious Metal Productions’ co-founding heads Canadian producer Christopher Giroux and actress-producer Ann Pirvu say the deal marks a milestone for their company which they launched earlier this year.

The first project under the new agreement will be a horror film directed by Giroux from an original screenplay he co-wrote with Pirvu. It is slated to begin production in early 2027.

Giroux’s recent credits include romances Snowbound for the Holidays for Hallmark and Bee My Love, Precious Metal’s first fully fledged production, but he is no stranger to horror having taken producer credits on a string of pictures in the genre including Anything For Jackson, Bite, Pins and Needles, I’ll Take Your Dead, The Heretics and recently The Voices of Our Mother.

“We’ve always believed that Canadian filmmakers can create commercially viable films without compromising creative ambition,” said Giroux. “Partnering with Black Fawn Distribution gives us an incredible opportunity to build a slate of exciting genre films while working alongside a team that truly understands both filmmaking and audiences.”

Black Fawn Distribution, a subsidiary of horror filmmakers Chad Archibald and Cody Calahan’s Black Fawn Films, is a major distributor of genre in Canada across all platforms, with recent acquisitions including Bury The Devil, Death of A Yellowbird, It Feeds, and Violence.

In 2025, it moved into international sales kicking off with The Undertone, which then sold to A24 following a bidding war.

Giroux and actress-producer Pirvu officially launched Precious Metal Productions last January with a focus on television movies and feature films with its activities spanning original content creation as well as full-service production.

Alongside producing, Pirvu is she is best known for her roles as Nicole on the CW’s Reign and Zoe in the award-winning series Poly Is the New Monogamy.
