‘Sweet Magnolias’ Creator Bids Farewell To Serenity, S.C. After Netflix Show Ends: “Keep Pouring It Out!”

As Sweet Magnolias comes to an end on Netflix, Sheryl J. Anderson is bidding farewell to Serenity, South Carolina.

On Saturday, the series creator thanked fans for their “passion for our characters” in a statement after Netflix canceled the romantic drama based on Sherryl Woods’ books after five seasons.

“Living in Serenity for five seasons has been a privilege and a blessing,” she wrote on Instagram. “The people I’ve met and worked with — our incredible writers, cast, crew, executives, and producers — have touched my heart and changed my life.”

Anderson continued, “And our fans have been amazing in their passion for our characters. Thank you all. Though our journey has sadly come to an end, I hope Serenity will always have a place in your heart. Keep pouring it out!”

The post comes after Deadline exclusively announced on Friday that Netflix has canceled the series after five seasons. Meanwhile, the streamer has greenlighted a new series from Sweet Magnolias EP/showrunner Anderson and star JoAnna Garcia Swisher.

Loosely based on Lauren Edmondson’s novel Ladies of the House, the new series also centers on a trio of women. Swisher is attached as an EP, and she’s being eyed to star.

In Ladies of the House, when the charismatic owner of a winery dies unexpectedly, his wife and two adult daughters must battle through their issues with each other in order to confront challenges with the business, their extended family, and the men in their lives. Good friends and good wine will aid in the journey to hang on to the winery, but what matters most is that they find a way to hang on to each other.
