Kit Harington said recently that, after calling off the Game of Thrones spinoff centered on Jon Snow in 2024, “I feel more comfortable with that character and that world again and where it sits in my life.”
The actor explored the idea on the Happy Sad Confused podcast this past weekend.
Harington recalled that GOT was really his second big project after Warhorse, and the huge success of the show — where people were screaming “Jon Snow!” to him on the street — felt a little confusing.
“You had this like bifurcation,” Harington recalled about meeting fans, “like, ‘I’m not that guy. No one’s that guy, but I’m certainly not that guy. I’m sorry.’”

The actor said he needed some space.
“I think I needed to do some other stuff like outside of it and it’s been a number of years and I’ve done all these different things. Some have been seen more widely than others. But I’ve done enough of them now that I don’t feel defined by just that character.”
But even when he announced in 2024 that the show was no longer being developed, the actor left the door open a crack.
“There may be a time in the future where we return to it,” he offered.
Harington isn’t exactly saying he’s pursuing the project again, but he sounds more open to the idea.
“Now I’ve gone and done all these other things, and now I feel more comfortable with that character and that world again and where it sits in my life,” he told Happy Sad Confused host Josh Horowitz.
“I still think there’s a world in which something could work. I wouldn’t have gone into it in the first place if I didn’t. But I was very insistent at the start — and they were as well, HBO and George R.R. Martin — of like: ‘If we don’t find the right thing, let’s not do it. It’s much better if we don’t.’ After a little while of thinking about it — it kind of was me — [I said], ‘This isn’t quite the right [story].’”
Word of the potential series centered on Harington’s character got out in June 2022. Following the leak, author George R.R. Martin revealed that the series had Snow as a working title and that it had writers/showrunners on board, brought in by Harington.
At a December 2022 GoT convention, Harington theorized what could be happening to Jon Snow after he killed Daenerys at the end of the mothership series.
“I think if you asked him, he would’ve felt he got off lightly,” Harington said. “At the end of the show when we find him in that cell, he’s preparing to be beheaded and he wants to be. He’s done. The fact he goes to the Wall is the greatest gift and also the greatest curse.”
