‘Clayface’ Still Boss With Near $23M WW; ‘Resident Evil’ Racks Up $400M WW Poised To Scare Away ‘Backrooms’ – Global Box Office Update

It was an awful weekend at the global box office, but a lot of that has to do with the fact that there’s no major wide Hollywood release (or China local blockbuster title for that matter) more than the Halloween holiday itself impacting worldwide ticket sales.

If there’s any indication of how bad the weekend was, tentpole exhibitor Imax only minted $6M this past weekend around the globe from a combo of The Odyssey ($1.3M WW), Resident Evil ($900K WW), NatGeo Doc Everest: The Other Side ($825K) and myriad local language fare.

While Halloween puts a damper on the domestic box office, that’s not necessarily the case around the world. The holiday is big in the UK, not so much Spain and France; the latter market still impacted by protests. Dia de los muertos is the big event in Mexico and other Latin American countries, impacting moviegoing.
