EXCLUSIVE: One of the most fun-sounding projects on sale at the upcoming AFM will be the Matthew Vaughn-produced irreverent action-comedy Stuntnuts, the Kick-Ass and Kingsman filmmaker’s homage to the largely unheralded men and women who carry out the death-defying stunts in the movies we love.

Stuntnuts will have a first market screening at the AFM where it’ll be on sale with Patrick Wachsberger’s Legendary sales label 193, we can reveal.

The project is the first film to emerge from Vaughn and soccer megastar Cristiano Ronaldo‘s film and TV joint venture UR MARV and will mark the latter’s first movie producing credit. Former Real Madrid and Manchester United legend Ronaldo may have hung up his boots from international football yesterday but he has multiple film and TV projects in the works.

The story “follows two gifted stunt performers who take jobs on a massive Hollywood blockbuster in a desperate bid to save their community gym. But as the production spirals spectacularly out of control, fueled by increasingly dangerous stunts and the dueling egos of its leading men, Thor star Chris Hemsworth and Oscar winner Sam Rockwell (playing hilariously heightened versions of themselves), saving the gym may prove to be the least of their problems.”

Watch on Deadline

The film is being directed by Damien Walters, who won an Actor Award for his stunt work in Skyfall and has worked on films including Jurassic World: Dominion, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Kingsman franchise, and 47 Ronin.

Starring are stunt artists Bobby Holland Hanton, Hemsworth’s regular double; Greg Townley, double for Tom Holland in Spider-Man; Paul Lowe, of the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones franchises; and Haruka Oshima, of No Time to Die and The Matrix franchise.

We can also reveal today that there will be another fun cameo in the movie from Jason Bourne and Odysseus himself, Oscar winner Matt Damon.

We first revealed the project a couple of years ago when our colleague Baz Bamigboye went down to observe the hijinks first hand. Stuntnuts was being positioned at the time as one in a series of Vaughn-produced movies about stuntmen. Some months before we were on set, in a case of art imitating life, during production of the movie stuntman Greg Townley fell “the wrong way” from the top of a water towner and broke his back in three places. The injury delayed the shoot by months but was then incorporated into the movie as an insight into the trials and tribulations faced by these film and TV daredevils.

Producers, 193 and reps declined to comment for this piece.
