SUNDAY AM: With a $312M global weekend opening, Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5 is the second best for a Pixar movie (sans China) behind 2024’s Inside Out 2 which debuted to $384M.

Did the World Cup kick the foreign B.O. in the head? We use to write about such paranoia in the early aughts when studios were first embracing international at the summer B.O. But alas, the World Cup only impacted business on the day of games, read when Mexico had a game on Thursday (biggest territory for the pic at $26.6M, and 2nd best bow YTD and 3rd bet for Pixar), or Brazil on Friday. It’s quite possible when we get to the quarter finals in the next week, or the championship in early July we truly see a dent.

By leaps and bounds, Jessie, Woody and Buzz are the No. 1 movie at the global weekend B.O. They are followed by among MPA titles (until Rentrak reports), Universal’s Disclosure Day ($35.7M WW second weekend, $160.4M WW cume), Obsession ($25.1M WW sixth weekend, $333.2M WW cume), and Paramount’s Scary Movie ($15.8M WW third frame, $202M WW Cume).

Watch on Deadline

Lionsgate Michael posted an estimated global weekend of $13.6M. Of that Japan posted a $5.4M second weekend for a running total of $17.5M. The overall running cume for King of Pop’s biopic stands at $959.6M.

Broken out, Toy Story 5 did $160M domestic and $152M international.

Disney is saying that Toy Story 5 is the best global start of all year. But Universal/Illumination’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie opened to $372.5M WW. What the…?

Here’s the thing, Super Mario Galaxy Movie global start includes Germany, Austria, and two days of domestic with Wednesday and Thursday (which Toy Story 5 doesn’t have). If you back that out, Super Mario Galaxy‘s weekend is at $302M, and yes, Toy Story 5 is at $312M. However, all studios when they report a global opening, always include their midweek Tuesday previews (if pertinent), Wednesday and Thursday domestic grosses. We can’t rewrite global box office reporting history by adding and subtracting days and territories.

Disney reports that the fifthquel posted the sixth highest MPA animated opening weekend of all time (including China), where Walt Disney Studios accounts for 5 of the top 6.

Toy Story 5 was either the No. 1 movie, or No. 1 non local movie in all major markets except India (where it was beat by a local title) and Poland. Overall international start here is also the second best for Pixar (including and excluding China) behind Inside Out 2.

Latin America grossed $55.2M for Jessie, Buzz and Woody where it was No. 1 in all markets with a 79% regional market share. Brazil bowed to $6.1M, the third highest start for a Pixar title in the country. Toy Story 5 also repped the biggest opening weekend YTD across the region. It was the highest opening for a Pixar movie (and YTD weekend) in Argentina with $5.4M. Colombia’s $4.2M reps second best bow for Pixar movie there (along with Peru and Uruguay). Central America’s $3.7M take is the 2nd highest opening weekend YTD, and third highest for Pixar (in addition to Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay).

Europe delivered $53.4M. UK turned in $20M, which stands as the best MPA title opening in the country YTD and second best for Pixar. Saturday also repped the highest grossing day ever for a Pixar movie in the U.K. France minted $7.2M. Spain’s $5.5M reps the second best start for a Pixar movie (excluding previews). Italy posted $3.5M.

Overall, the fifthquel saw the top opening ever for animated pic in Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar and United Arab Emirates. Also, it was a record star for Pixar in those territories including Iraq, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. Also, the pic was the No. 2 Pixar opening of all-time in Lebanon, Serbia, Turkey and Croatia. Despite Israeli strikes on Lebanon, moviegoing wasn’t impacted for the weekend, which sources say has improved since Iran stopped firing missiles into Israel.

Asia Pacific posted $43.4M.

Toy Story 5‘s No. 1 haul in China of $18M is the best YTD start for a MPA movie. It’s also a franchise record ahead of Toy Story 4‘s $13M. Korea’s $6.1M is also the best start YTD for a MPA title. Other YTD best openings were posted by Indonesia (also a Pixar record), Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand.

Australia’s $6.9M is the second highest opening for a movie YTD, and the third highest for Pixar.

Toy Story 5 is going later in Japan (July 3), Germany/Austria (July 23, the franchise is a tad sluggish, particularly with an onslaught of slapstick Minions coming, hence the decision to go later) and Hong Kong.

DISCLOSURE DAY, directed by Steven Spielberg.

The UK & Ireland grossed $2.1M in Wknd 2 for a $12M cume, performing above Twisters, One Battle After Another and Arrival at the same point.

In Mexico, Disclosure Day made $2Mthis weekend to reach $7.4M cume through Sunday, performing above Project Hail Mary and overtaking the lifetimes of Dune, One Battle After Another, and Mad Max Fury Road to name a few.

For a pure comedy, Scary Movie is bound for a $220M, if not more, global cume, which blows away Naked Gun ($102M WW reported) and the Jennifer Lawrence R-rated No Hard Feelings ($87.2M) in the post Covid. It’s not fair to comp Scary Movie to the R-rated Marvel Studios Deadpool & Wolverine ($1.33 billion) as that’s a superhero movie. Also can’t comp to the last two Bad Boys movies or Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy as those comedies were loaded with action.

International on Scary Movie has crossed $100M ($104.4M to be exact) after a $9.1M third weekend in 58 markets.

Top five holdovers were:

–Mexico $919K third frame at 812 locations, at No. 3 and down 64%. The local cume is now at $12.8M.
–Brazilwith $839K third weekend at 638 locations, at No. 3 in the market and down 56% from last week. Running cume is just under $10M.
–UK with third weekend of $757K at 512 locations, No. 4 in the market and -61%. Running total is $11.3M.
Germany’s third weekend was $661K at 535 locations, ranking No. 2 and down 69% from last week. Total running there is $9.5M.
France’s third frame grossed $611K at 560 locations, at No. 6 and down 57%. Running total is $6M.

SATURDAY AM: It’s an understatement to say that Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5 is off to a great global start at the box office. With $129.3M so far, the Andrew Stanton directed movie is bound to beat its worldwide opening forecast of $275M.

Broken out that’s $71M domestic for Toy Story 5, which as we told you was the second best Friday ever for an animated movie behind Incredibles 2‘s $71.2M, with another $58.3M currently from offshore.

Stateside outlook has risen to $160M-$170M (past its earlier week $140M projection). Note, the best global opening ever for a Pixar movie in like-for-likes belongs to Inside Out 2 with $384M WW ($230 Int’l, $154M domestic).

Friday saw seven more markets including UK and China bringing the fifthquel’s territory count to 48.

The UK with $5.5M repped the best opening day for a Pixar movie. Ditto for China where Jessie, Woody, and Buzz raked in $7.4M.

Toy Story 5 opened to either No. 1 or No. 1 non-local in all markets including Mexico ($11.4M), China, UK, France ($3M), Spain ($2.7M), Italy, Australia ($2M) and Brazil ($1.9M). The only places Toy Story 5 wasn’t No. 1 or a No. 1 MPA title was India and Vietnam. Argentina saw its second best opening day of 2026 on Thursday with $1.1M, now with a $2M running cume.

Korea opened to No. 1 on Wednesday with $1.1M with a 50% share. That opening day was third highest for a MPA title YTD and fifth highest Pixar opening day of all-time. Current social scores are strong with Naver 9.69/CGV 98%. The pic’s cume in Korea is now up to $1.7M.

In the rest of Europe, Toy Story 5 repped the second highest Pixar opening day of all-time and the highest opening day of 2026 in Turkey.

The toys commanded a 30% market share in the Middle Kingdom, where the fifthquel was also the second highest animated opening for a MPA title since 2020, behind only Zootopia 2 (that sequel screamed a massive $271.7M opening in reported grosses, ultimately grossing $651.3M in China as part of its overall $1.86 billion worldwide). There’s strong social scores with Mayan at 9.6, TTP at 9.5 and Douban at 8. In Vietnam, the Pixar title saw the second highest opening day YTD for a MPA theatrical release.

We’ll have more updates for you tomorrow.
