EXCLUSIVE: Ahead of the release of his new DC Studios film, Supergirl, Craig Gillespie has entered talks to direct Glen Powell in Homewreckers, a twisty, erotic sci-fi thriller for Legendary, sources tell Deadline.
Reps for Legendary declined comment. Based on a novella by Neil Paik, who is adapting, the film’s logline is being kept under wraps. It landed at Legendary in a competitive situation in December 2024 and remains in development. In addition to starring, Powell will produce.
Slated for release by Warner Bros. this Friday, June 26, the Milly Alcock-led Supergirl marks Gillespie’s entrée into the DCU.
An Emmy and PGA Award nominee and DGA Award winner, the Australian-American filmmaker has most recently directed on and exec produced Apple TV’s hit Jon Hamm series Your Friends & Neighbors, which is heading into its third season, as well as Prime Video’s thriller The Better Sister starring Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel. In film, he’s also known for titles like Dumb Money, Cruella, I, Tonya and Lars and the Real Girl. He is represented by CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.

Earlier today, Legendary announced its partnership with Scholastic Entertainment to develop a live-action feature adaptation of children’s book series The Magic School Bus, with Rob Letterman (Detective Pikachu) aboard to write the treatment and direct, and Elizabeth Banks set both to produce and play the key role of teacher Ms. Frizzle. The project landed at Legendary following a lapse in rights at Universal, which announced its development of a live-action/animated hybrid take alongside Scholastic, Banks, and producer Marc Platt in 2020.
