West End ‘Rent’ Revival With Gaten Matarazzo Rounds Out Principal Cast

The upcoming West End revival of Rent starring the previously announced Gaten Matarazzo has rounded out its principal cast, with Travis Ross (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club), Bella Brown (Into The Woods) and
Billy Nevers (Jesus Christ Superstar), among others, joining the 30th anniversary presentation of the Jonathan Larson musical.

Matarazzo, who will play the character Mark in his West End debut (he recently appeared on Broadway in the 2023 revival of Sweeney Todd), will be joined by Ross as Roger, Brown as Mimi, Nevers as Collins, Lazy Violet (Six) as Maureen, Danielle Fiamanya (Brigadoon) as Joanne, Jeevan Braich (Starlight Express) as Angel and Joaquin Pedro Valdes (The Lightning Thief) as Benny.

Rent will begin previews September 26 at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre (soon to be renamed the Tom Stoppard Theatre), with an official opening on October 8. Producers announced a six-week extension to the originally scheduled run, with Rent now playing through March 27, 2027.

Production

Producers Chris Harper and Sonia Friedman said in a statement, “One of the greatest privileges of producing theatre is discovering and championing exceptional new talent, and that’s exactly what this extraordinary young company represents. This remarkable group of actors embodies everything that has made Jonathan Larson’s Rent so enduring: individuality, honesty, fearlessness and generosity of spirit.”

Directing will be Luke Sheppard, with choreography by Tom Jackson Greaves, set design by David Woodhead, costume design by Gabriella Slade, lighting design by Howard Hudson, audio production and sound design by Paul Gatehouse, video design and cinematography by George Reeve and Nathan Amzi, make-up and hair design by Jackie Saundercock.

Producers are Chris Harper Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions, with Winkler and Smalberg, along with Julie Larson, co-producing. Hope Mill Theatre is the associate producer.
