Elle Fanning And Julianne Moore To Star In New Film From Rebecca Miller About ‘Goodnight Moon’ Author Margaret Wise Brown

EXCLUSIVE: Elle Fanning and Julianne Moore are set to star in Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses, a new film from Rebecca Miller that tells the story of famous children’s book author Margaret Wise Brown. This marks Miller’s ninth film as director; she is also penning the script.

Moonsong is based on the book Margaret Wise Brown: Awakened by the Moon by Leonard S. Marcus and tells the story of beloved children’s book author Margaret Wise Brown, whose classic books include Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny originally published in the 1940s. Given the title “the laureate of the nursery,” Brown’s impact is still felt decades after, with her books being read before bed and in classrooms around the world.

The project was brought to Miller and her Round Films producing partner Damon Cardasis by Amanda Goodwin, Keri Selig and Sasha Alexander. Martin Scorsese will executive produce, with production to begin in spring 2027. Miller and Scorsese developed a relationship during her time directing the five-part documentary Mr. Scorsese, which recently scored three Emmy nominations including for directing, and previously won a DGA Award, an Independent Spirit Award and a grand jury prize at Sundance.

Moore will next be seen starring in Jessie Eisenberg’s The Debut for A24 and just completed Tom Ford’s Cry to Heaven. Fanning stars in and produces Margo’s Got Money Troubles, and earned an Emmy nomination this week for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She will next be seen in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, followed by The Nightingale, which she stars in and produces alongside sister Dakota Fanning. She is currently in production on A24’s Discretion, opposite Nicole Kidman.
