EXCLUSIVE: Two more familiar faces will be joining Season 2 of ‘s acclaimed HBO crime drama Task.
Martha Plimpton and Silvia Dionicio will return to reprise their roles from Season 1, joining previously announced Season 1 star Mark Ruffalo.
Plimpton portrays Kathleen McGinty, FBI Supervisory Senior Resident in Charge, and Dionicio plays Emily Brandis, the adopted teenage daughter of Ruffalo’s FBI agent Tom Brandis.
Task was initially seen as a limited series, but following the successful first season, HBO and creator Ingelsby felt a second season was needed.
Now, even though they were able to bring back Ruffalo, most of the Season 2 cast will be new talent with Plimpton’s role expected to be much more prominent this go-around.
As previously announced, Julianne Nicholson also has joined Season 2, reprising her Emmy-winning Mare of Easttown role as Lori Ross, which will likely set up some sort of crossover with the Ingelsby-created series.

In the first season, we saw Ruffalo’s Brandis form a task force to track down a crew of masked robbers, led by a working-class family man, that were carrying out a series of violent crimes in the Philadelphia area. In Season 2, Brandis takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it is to tell who’s the target.
Task is created by Ingelsby, who returned to HBO following his work on Emmy-winning crime drama Mare of Easttown. Ingelsby is also writing, showrunning, and exec producing alongside Paul Lee and Mark Roybal for wiip, Jeremiah Zagar, Ruffalo, and Ron Schmidt. Nicole Jordan-Webber and Karen Wacker are co-executive producers.
Plimpton will next be seen in Netflix’s limited series adaptation of East of Eden, premiering this fall, and has joined the Season 2 cast of FX’s The Lowdown for its upcoming second season. She’ll also be seen in the upcoming feature film adaptation of Edith Wharton’s The Custom of the Country, opposite Dominic West. Plimpton is repped by Innovative Artists and Markham, Froggatt and Irwin.
Dionicio next joins Matt Damon, Sandra Oh and Charles Melton in the Daniels’ anticipated untitled Universal event film, the Oscar-winning duo’s follow-up to Everything Everywhere All at Once. She’ll also co-star in Lauren Iungerich’s upcoming Netflix YA drama series Poser. Dionicio is repped by CAA, IKIGAI Management & Media and Granderson Des Rochers.
