EXCLUSIVE: Here Comes The Sun (again) to London’s Abbey Road, where Sam Mendes’ anticipated Beatles production will be filming a scene this summer that “involves approximately 80 extras and some vintage vehicles.”
The Beatles – A Four Film Cinematic Event is four separate theatrical biopic films about the iconic British quartet from Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes and his Neal Street Productions.
Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) will play Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) will play George Harrison, Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) will be drummer Ringo Starr, and Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) is playing John Lennon.
Last week, residents and business owners in the areas around Abbey Road received a letter from Sony Pictures updating them about plans to shoot for an upcoming feature film set in “1960s London.”

“The scene we are planning to film on Abbey Road involves approximately 80 extras and some vintage vehicles. We will also be filming in the front courtyard of ,” read the letter.
Sources close to the production have confirmed to Deadline that filming in these areas will take place in cooperation with Westminster City Council. The letter also outlines road closures and bus diversions “to ensure the safety of public, cast and crew.” It’s not clear whether filming will take place inside the venue.
Established in 1931, Abbey Road Studios is the world’s first recording studio and has housed some of the biggest musicians in the world from The Beatles to Amy Winehouse, Fela Kuti, Ella Fitzgerald, Lady Gaga and Pink Floyd. The Beatles recorded 190 of their 210 songs at the venue between 1962 and 1970, and even named their last recorded album after the famous street.
Abbey Road Studios has also become a leading destination for film scoring with soundtracks for major franchises like Star Wars, Harry Potter, and The Lord Of The Rings being recorded there, as well as Oscar-winners including The Shape Of Water, Black Panther, and Barbie.
Although the Studios are involved in the music-making for a majority of high profile films, not many productions actually shoot at the venue. Recent Brian Epstein biopic Midas Man was granted permission to film in Studio Two to recreate scenes from one of The Beatles’ recording sessions.
The Mendes movie’s release window is currently April 2028, and as Deadline exclusively reported, Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne are writing the screenplays for the biopics.
In addition to the Fab Four castings, several big names have been tapped to portray other important characters in The Beatles’ lives. Deadline broke the news that James Norton (Happy Valley) has been cast as Brian Epstein, The Beatles’ longtime manager, in the films. Additionally, Saoirse Ronan (Ladybird) plays McCartney’s first wife Linda McCartney, Mia McKenna Bruce (How To Have Sex) will play Starr’s first wife Maureen Starkey, Anna Sawai (Shōgun) will be Lennon’s wife Yoko Ono, and Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus) will play Harrison’s first wife Patty Boyd.
To round off the starry cast, Harry Lawtey (Industry) will play Stuart Sutcliffe aka “The Fifth Beatle,” Farhan Akhtar (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag) is Ravi Shankar, the Indian sitarist and classical musician who had an influence on Harrison, Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) will be British actressJane Asher, who was McCartney’s fiancée initially, and Morfydd Clark (Saint Maud) will play Cynthia Lennon, Lennon’s first wife.
