EXCLUSIVE: Alexandra Metz (The Pitt) has joined the cast of Will Trent for Season 5, taking on the series regular role of Birdie Palmer.
Birdie is the newly appointed Deputy Director of the GBI — confident, ambitious, and razor-sharp, but deeply guarded by a life-altering event from her past. Birdie is taking over the role following the death of Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn) in Season 4.
Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling “Will Trent” book series, Special Agent Will Trent (Ramón Rodríguez) of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Now, Will uses his unique point of view in the pursuit of justice and has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.
The series also stars Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, and Kevin Daniels as Franklin Wilks.

Metz currently recurs on the HBO Max hit medical drama The Pitt as Dr. Yolanda Garcia, and will return for Season 3, sources say. The Pitt has been in production in Los Angeles since June, and Will Trent began production in Atlanta about two weeks ago, with a release date on ABC set for 2027.
Executive producers are Liz Heldens, Karine Rosenthal, Daniel Thomsen, Karin Slaughter, Oly Obst, Jason Ensler, Ellen Marie Blum, and Rodríguez. Rosenthal also serves as showrunner. The series is produced by 20th Television.
Metz’s additional credits include ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Fire, and Law & Order: SVU on NBC, the CW’s Gossip Girl, and ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder. Up next, she will be seen in the independent feature Iron Jane, directed by Lissette Feliciano, and starring opposite Eiza Gonzalez and Brandon Sklenar. She is currently writing a memoir, Good Grief, exploring intergenerational trauma, resilience, and healing.
