EXCLUSIVE: Aura Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to THE FOX, a dark comedy from director and writer Dario Russo (Danger 5), starring Jai Courtney (The Suicide Squad), Emily Browning (Legend), Academy Award-winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite), and the late Sam Neill (Jurassic World Dominion).
Following its world premiere at last year’s Adelaide Film Festival and international premiere at SXSW, The Fox went on to screen at Fantasia Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, and Sydney Film Festival. Aura will release the film in US theaters on December 4th, following the Australian release on November 26th.
The Fox begins when a talking fox offers an affable hunter the opportunity to transform his cheating partner into the perfect woman and gets a lot more than he bargained for. The film marks Russo’s feature directorial debut. He previously wrote and directed the cult television series Danger 5, as well as the acclaimed parody web-series, Italian Spiderman. Dario also co-created and co-wrote the upcoming animated Netflix series Dad’s House.

The film was produced by Kristina Ceyton and Samantha Jennings on behalf of Causeway Films. A major production investment was also made by Screen Australia, in association with Orogen Entertainment and the South Australian Film Corporation. The film was financed with support from A-Up Duck Productions, Kojo Studios, Flickstar and the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fundwas.
The deal was negotiated by Protagonist Pictures’ Head of Sales, Lina Marrone, on behalf of the filmmakers. Executive producers from Orogen Entertainment include Blair Ward, Anders Erdén and Lauren Case, alongside Jamie McClurg, Dale Roberts, David C Lancaster, Salman Al-Rashid, Daniel Negret, Dario Russo, as well as Jai Courtney and Emily Browning.
