While donning the iconic blue sweater for Crystal Lake, Linda Cardellini was ready to go full Pamela Voorhees with her killer 1970s transformation.
The Emmy-winning actress told Deadline she “originally wanted to” recreate Betsy Palmer’s iconic crop-style haircut from Friday the 13th (1980), and they even “tried it for a second” but series creator didn’t want to stray into “cosplay territory.”
“We talked about it a lot, but then we realized we had 10 years to get to that hairdo,” she explained. “So, she can’t keep that hairdo for 10 years. It wasn’t in style that much. So, we tried it for a second there.”
Cardellini added, “But the sweater was really exciting because I know it means a lot, and so putting it on sort of was a responsibility. I’ve had a few famous sweaters that had mantles I’ve had to carry, so I understand the weight of carrying a very important sweater and so I hope I do it right.”

Indeed, Cardellini donned an equally iconic orange turtleneck to play Velma Dinkley in the 2002 and ’04 live-action Scooby-Doo movies.
After teasing that Cardellini’s Pam would take on the character’s signature blue cable-knit sweater, Kane noted, “The sweater is iconic enough. I think when you get into the place of, ‘OK, we’re going to recreate Betsy Palmer’s haircut,’ you start to get into cosplay territory, and I don’t think you need to do that.
“Because you hire Linda Cardellini, she’s gonna create her own character, with respect to Betsy Palmer’s performance, and a lot of that does come out,” added Kane. “There are great, great nods and Easter eggs for fans, but you have to sit back and let her cook, so to speak.”
