The Last Sunrise, based on Anna Todd’s bestselling romance novel, is the latest romance film in the YA genre and book adaptation Venn diagram to arrive on Prime Video as the streamer rides the wave of obsession.
In the film, Maia Reficco portrays Oriah ‘Ry’ Pera, a young dancer facing some health challenges when her mother Isolde (Eva Longoria) brings her to the Spanish island of Majorca, where Isolde grew up, for a vacation and some family time. The problem is, Isolde is very busy with work, so Ry is often left to herself with four alarms a day to take medication to prevent seizures. She finds unexpected romance with Julian (Fernando Lindez), who has his own problems weighing on him.
Directed by Carlson Young, the film hails from Amazong MGM studios, who are eyeing a sequel adaptation of Todd’s not-yet-released novel. Todd is planning a trilogy of books, and screenwriter Anna Klassen will return for the second film adaptation.
