Broadway Marquees To Dim For Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, Louise Lasser And Others

Dolly Parton, whose Dolly: A True Original Musical, is New York-bound, will be among those honored with a Broadway marquee dimming set for Tuesday, September 8.

In addition to Parton, who died August 25, the group tribute will also honor, among others, The Rocky Horror Show’s Tim Curry, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman star Louise Lasser (who got her start on the New York stage) and music industry icon (and Leader of the Pack Broadway producer) Clive Davis.

All Broadway theater marquees will dim simultaneously on Tuesday, September 8 at 6:45 p.m./ET in their honor.

Others named in the upcoming tribute are actors Gina Ferrall (Les Miserables) and Josh Grisetti (Something Rotten!); production manager Jeff Hamlin; Once composer and actor Glen Hansard; scenic designer and art director Anna Louizos; general manager Seth Marquette; actor Anne Russell (Flora, The Red Menace); producer James Walsh; and orchestrator, composer and conductor Harold Wheeler.

The group dimmings, established last year, are held quarterly (September, December, March and June) to honor creative professionals “who have left an indelible mark on Broadway.” Individual dimmings are announced on a case-by-case basis.

In addition to her upcoming Dolly: A True Original Musical, Parton wrote the score for the 2009 musical 9 to 5. Curry’s credits, in addition to Rocky Horror, included Spamalot, My Favorite Year, Amadeus and Travesties, while Lasser appeared in I Can Get It For You Wholesale, Henry Sweet Henry, and Thieves, among others.
