After eight years, Constance Wu is reuniting with the Young family for the Crazy Rich Asians HBO sequel series.
On Friday, the Golden Globe nominee teased the “really funny” script from the 2018 film’s co-writer Adele Lim, revealing the filming is taking place in New York City for the one-hour drama series, which got a series order from HBO earlier this month.
“Well, I mean, the first movie is based on the book by Kevin Kwan,” she explained on Today. “And he actually has a whole bunch of books in the Crazy Rich Asians world, and so a lot of it follows that. I could tell you that we’re all excited to be coming back. It’s filming here in New York where I live, so I’m thrilled about that. And I think it’s really funny.
Wu confirmed that production starts next year on the eight-episode series, and she’s read a script. “It’s very funny. I think it’s really good,” she said.

“We’re in great hands because Adele is showrunning and writing and she did the original [film], and she’s just so smart and good and talented that I feel just great with her at the helm,” added Wu
Earlier this month, we reported that HBO gave the series a green light after about two years of development from Lim, the movie’s director Jon M. Chu, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson.
Wu is set to reprise her role Rachel Chu in the series, alongside Henry Golding as Nick Young and Ronny Chieng as Eddie Chang, with Michelle Yeoh recurring as Eleanor Sung-Young.
