There were plenty of memorable moments on camera at Monday night’s 78th Emmy Awards, but much went on off-camera as well.
Emmy history was made tonight by Matthew Rhys, who became the first actor to win across all three lead categories (Comedy, Drama & Limited Series/Movie) and is the first man to win two lead acting awards in the same year.
And Jean Smart won her eighth career Emmy, tying Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cloris Leachman for the most Emmys ever by a performer.
Deadline was in the audience at tonight’s show, keeping an eye on all that was unfolding when the cameras were off. Here’s some of what we saw:

Tom Holland did not walk the red (actually blue) carpet, but is with Zendaya at tonight’s show. During break after she lost for Lead Actress in the Drama Series to Rhea Seehorn, he and she were talking when fellow Avenger and Task nominee Mark Ruffalo came running over and bear hugged him and then Zendaya. Clearly biggest stars in the room right now. Who needs an Emmy?
And there has been so much action at the concessions in loge the only food left at 7:15 is flamin hot Doritos and one lone box of M&Ms.
Vince Gilligan snacked on a burger slider in the press room watching Rhea Seehorn do press for her first Emmy!
