The round for Gridsight was led by Insight Partners, with support from Galvanize and existing investors Airtree, Energy Transition Ventures and Aera VC.
It follows a $7.5m Series A 16 months ago led by Airtree, with cricketer Pat Cummins among the investors.
Founded in Sydney in 2020, Gridsight now operates in Australia, New Zealand, the US, and UK. Its customers include Endeavour Energy, which used the platform’s real-time solar management to double household solar export capacity from 5kW to 10kW in a program that’s expected to unlock more than $100 million in value for customers and 600MW of additional solar capacity for the grid.
Endeavour CEO Danny Cooper said Gridsight has been an invaluable strategic partner since 2021, helping them embrace AI and make data-led decisions.
“We’ve doubled customers’ solar export capacity within our existing poles and wires, are operating the grid closer to its full potential, and delivering better value for our customers,” he said.
The capital injection will be used on further US expansion alongside Australian growth, as the sudden and dramatic rise of AI data centres once again places new demands on electricity networks.
The platform gives utilities a unified view of available network capacity and the tools to act on it in real-time.
Gridsight cofounder and CEO Brendan Banfield said as much as three-quarters of grid capacity is unused on average, varying by location, time of day, and season, so factoring that into planning will be crucial in managing loads.
“The grid’s capacity challenge is not uniform. For the majority of the year, significant capacity exists; but it is uneven, dynamic and geographically dependent,” he said.
“Our platform helps utilities quantify that capacity, connect customers faster and direct investment to the pockets of the grid that maximise its impact.”
Insight Partners MD Rachel Geller said the US market opportunity is substantial.
“The energy transition is stress-testing utility networks in ways they were never designed to handle,” she said.
“Gridsight’s platform provides the intelligence, visibility, and control needed to unlock latent capacity, connect more load, and stay ahead of demand without waiting for new infrastructure.”
