‘Evil Dead Burn’ Cast “Got Warned” About “Relentless” Toll Of Horror Franchise: “I Would Do It Again In A Heartbeat”

As Evil Dead Burn is unleashed on cinemas, the cast recently discussed the heavy toll of performing in the horror sequel.

Hunter Doohan, who plays Joseph in the Sébastien Vaniček-helmed movie hitting theaters Friday, explained he and his co-stars “got warned about” the “relentless” nature of joining the iconic franchise started by Sam Raimi with his 1979 short Within the Woods, which was adapted into 1981’s cult horror The Evil Dead.

“I had so much fun. For me, I would do it again in a heartbeat,” Doohan told SlashFilm. “I think we got exactly what we signed up for when we read that script. I mean, it is relentless from the beginning.”

Souheila Yacoub, who stars as Alice, echoed the sentiment after their intense behind-the-scenes experience. “Yeah, this is part of our job: not knowing what we’re going through and just discovering on set as we go. And this was the most fun,” she said.

Following Raimi’s original trilogy, which included The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1993), the franchise was rebooted with Fede Álvarez’s Evil Dead in 2013.

With Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise (2023) steering the movies in a new darker direction, to the tune of $147M globally, the horror is set to continue with Sébastien Vaniček’s Evil Dead Burn, premiering July 10 in US theaters.

Producer Robert Tapert said of Evil Dead Burn‘s synopsis, “It’s the story of a French woman in a bad marriage in America, and… what we will discover along the ride – was probably an abusive husband, whose family did not believe her – and so they were basically the in-laws from hell.”
