EXCLUSIVE: Isabelle Huppert looks quite the gangster in a behind-the-scenes image of her in Yann Demange’s crime family thriller Lineage, which was unveiled today by The Veterans as it gears up for a sales push at TIFF.
Shooting is currently underway in London with the Elle Oscar nominee joined in the cast by Dali Benssalah (No Time To Die) as well as Adam Bessa, who recently shared the big screen with Huppert in Asghar Farhadi’s Parallel Lives, and acclaimed UK ‘Where Is My Husband?’ singer-songwriter Raye in her debut feature film role.
Set in contemporary multicultural London, Lineage follows Tariq, a man rebuilding his life after prison and striving to carve out a new path for himself and his young son, Amine. When his brother pleads for help, Tariq is pulled back into the London criminal underworld and the dangerous orbit of their crime boss mother. This reconnection jeopardizes everything he has built, forcing him to confront his family loyalty and the legacy of violence that has defined his life.

Developed over a number of years, the feature is based on a story by Demange (71’, Top Boy) who describes Lineage as a very personal project and a love letter to the London he grew up in that is seldom seen on screen. The screenplay is by Enda Walsh (Hunger).
Lineage is produced by Wayward’s Demange, Thomas Benski and Meredith Duff, Vincent Maraval’s Goodfellas, Why Not’s Pascal Caucheteux, Angus Lamont, Carrousel’s Cécile Gaget, and Besides Productions’ Christophe Toulemonde.
BNF Capital’s Bertrand Perrodo, BBC Film, Rodrigo Texteira’s RT Features, Marco Perego’s Artists Haven, Scott Franklin and Steven Weisbrot’s Pickled Pictures, and Lumina Studios are co-financing the film. Tessa Ross of House Productions, Richard Mansell of Strange Charm, Eva Yates of BBC Film along with Gary Farkas, Clement Lepoutre and Olivier Muller of Vixens are serving as executive producers.
