Fans of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir can expect a live-action version of the animated series, its co-creator Jeremy Zag has said. Meanwhile, his studio, Zag Entertainment, is also making headway on Melody, an animated feature film with Katy Perry.
Zag co-created French animated show Miraculous through Zag. He was feted as Deadline’s 2026 French TV Disruptor this week at Unifrance’s Rendez-Vous market, recognizing his work creating animated series and movies that have travelled the world.
He received the accolade in the historic surroundings of the Montivilliers Abbey in Normandy, France. Ahead of being presented with the award, the animation boss sat down with Deadline to talk about his work, and tease some of what’s next.
Zag explained how with Miraculous and other work he always sets out to create a whole universe, spanning TV and film as well as games and merch. “I really believe in the power of a brand, and I believe that from a little drawing, you can create a giant franchise,” he said.
Zag decamped to L.A. to build Miraculous into a global franchise. He took creative inspiration from U.S. superhero culture, but also learned some American business smarts to create a universe of characters. The Zag team has a raft of new superheroes ready to join Ladybug, and Zag also teased a live-action Miraculous series.
“We’re going to keep the DNA of what people love about Miraculous,” Zag said about the project. “We are moving forward now. The team is here, the producers are here, the writers are here.”
Giving Deadline the latest on Melody with Katy Perry, Zag told us things are moving forward.
“Katy is very involved in the movie; she’s playing a main character, she’s working on the songs, and she’s also working on the story,” he said. “We are incredibly happy because we are also working with Gary Trousdale, the director of Beauty and the Beast.”
He added: “It’s about believing in yourself. It’s a little girl who wants to sing, but she doesn’t believe in herself.”
Zag talks about creating an animation legacy. “My dream is to leave behind me some franchises that will help the new generation to believe in themselves… and obviously to create crossovers between them all,” he said. “The final dream is to create a Zag World.”
