The Gilded Age Season 4 will grace viewers with its presence ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The eight-episode fourth installment of the Julian Fellowes-created period drama will debut Sunday, November 1 on HBO and stream on HBO Max at 9 p.m. ET and PT.
Season 4’s logline teases new developments for the women of the show, warning to “be careful what you wish for” in this new era. Carrie Coon’s Bertha Russell has changed Society at a cost. Now, her family must reckon with the consequences. Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) sees an opportunity to regain her position. Meanwhile, Marian (Louisa Jacobson) forges a new path for herself, and Peggy (Denée Benton) works to be accepted by her future in-laws.
“We are truly being tested,” Coon’s Bertha says at the beginning of the teaser clip. “We must fight with every tool we have.”

For a quick Season 3 refresher, Bertha arranged a marriage for her daughter Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) to the Duke of Buckingham, and, though theirs became a true love match by the end of the season, Bertha’s husband George Russell (Morgan Spector) grew bitter with resentment at not letting their daughter choose her fate. Bertha also made it possible for divorced women to attend social events, and viewers hold their breath to see if the taboo fate awaits her. Marian received a marriage proposal from Larry Russell (Harry Richardson), but she grew doubtful after she discovered that he had attended a house of ill repute instead of another, more respected establishment that he named to her instead. Peggy’s was a happier ending with an accepted marriage proposal from Dr. William Kirkland (Jordan Donica).
Season 4’s cast also includes returners Cynthia Nixon, Blake Ritson, Ben Ahlers, Ashlie Atkinson, Dylan Baker, Kelley Curran, Jordan Donica, Jessica Frances Dukes, Amy Forsyth, Jack Gilpin, Simon Jones, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Ben Lamb, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Debra Monk, Hattie Morahan, Donna Murphy, Kristine Nielsen, Kelli O’Hara, Taylor Richardson, Douglas Sills, Erin Wilhelmi, Phylicia Rashad, Bill Camp and John Douglas Thompson.
Newcomers are Taylor Trensch, James Scully, Dennis Haysbert, Maggie Kuntz, Neal Huff, Bonnie Milligan, Jim Gaffigan, Dallas Roberts, Andrew Burnap, Elizabeth Marvel and Adrienne Warren.
