‘Hercule’: BritBox Unveils First Look At Edward Bluemel As Title Character In Poirot Origin Series

We’re getting the first look at Edward Bluemel as Hercule Poirot in BritBox‘s upcoming six-part drama series Hercule. You can see a cropped image above and full image below.

The origin series, which is currently shooting in Liverpool, is an intimate study of legendary Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, played by Bluemel, the man and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars. Hercule will center around three of Agatha Christie’s early stories, while also introducing Hercule Poirot to future friends and allies and one particular nemesis…

In addition to Bluemel, previously announced cast includes Henry Ashton (A Knight of the Seven KingdomsA Good Girl’s Guide to Murder), James D’Arcy (OppenheimerConstellations), Calvin Demba (SupacellLife), Phil Dunning (Smoggie QueensAm I Being Unreasonable?), Jack Gleeson (House of GuinnessIn the Land of the Saints and Sinners), Tamsin Greig (Riot WomenFriday Night Dinner), James Nesbitt (Cold FeetRun Away), Guy Remmers (The Buccaneers, Lessons), Rebecca Rittenhouse (His & HersMaggie) and Mawaan Rizwan (JuiceThe Split Up).

Series is written by Benji Walters (Obsession). The first two episodes will be directed by Jonny Campbell (Am I Being Unreasonable?). Chanya Button (Doctor Who) will direct the second two eps, and Alrick Riley (Bridgerton) the final two installments. Charlie Palmer (Extraordinary) is series producer.

Hercule is produced by Mammoth Screen, a part of ITV Studios. and Agatha Christie Limited for BritBox in North America, BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK.

Deadline was first with the news in April that Hercule was in the works, and then the Bluemel casting in June. The series will premiere on the BBC and BritBox in North America in 2027.
