Movistar Plus debuted some of the projects that will feature as part of its 2027 content slate, including two projects executive-produced by JA Bayona and a new comedy series by Fernando León de Aranoa (The Good Boss), this morning at the San Sebastián Film Festival.

The León series will be titled The Castaway. León has directed the series from screenplays he also wrote. The series has been produced by León, Jaume Roures and Patricia de Muns. Starring are Belén Cuesta and David Verdaguer.

Also on the TV side, Movistar will next year debut a series created by Cristóbal Garrido and Adolfo Valor (The Brief Life), which offers a fictionalized account of the 1991 Barcelona Olympics. The streamer has said the show will detail the preparations for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. The series has been produced in collaboration with Charlie Pisco Producciones and Kubik Films. Starring are David Verdaguer, Paula Malia, Silvia Abril, Andreu Buenafuente, Maria León, Alex Brendemühl, Pau Durá, and Jorge Usón.

The two JA Bayona projects will be non-fiction features. The streamer did not provide any specifics about those projects during this morning’s presentation, which was led by Movistar Plus CEO Alfonso Gómez Palacio and Director of Content Juan Andrés García Ropero.

The two execs also committed to expanding their support of homegrown filmmaking talent. This will first be addressed by Movistar Plus debuting one new Spanish film every week on its platform in 2027.

“The Spanish film industry is experiencing an extraordinary moment, and we believe Movistar Plus has a responsibility to contribute to its continued growth,” Ropero said. “We are looking for projects with quality, personality, and a unique perspective. We want stories that no one else dares to tell.”

Other standout projects announced by the streamer today include A Family Visit, directed by Sandra Romero (As Silence Passes By), 250 Meters, directed by Daniel Monzón (Outlaws), and a series from the Moriartis, produced by Carles Porta, with Anna Castillo, Pol López, and Eduard Fernández attached to star.
