EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is developing Scope, a mystery action thriller from Warfare helmer Ray Mendoza and producer Jaume Collet-Serra, Deadline has learned.
Billed as a mystery action thriller in the vein of Disturbia and Rear Window, Scope originated as a spec by Charley & Vlas Parlapanides (Netflix’s Blood of Zeus) and Scott Charnick, which Netflix picked up preemptively via Collet-Serra’s Jadis Collective. The story follows a battle-hardened special forces operator returning home to recuperate from a traumatizing injury who gets caught up in an unexpected suburban mystery.
Collet-Serra and Max Jacoby will produce via Jadis Collective, alongside Trevor Engelson and Josh McGuire of Underground (The Drop: A Snowfall Saga). This is the latest project out of Collet-Serra’s creative partnership with Netflix, under which he directs and produces film & TV for the streamer. He inked that deal following the breakout success of his airpor action-thriller Carry-On, starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman, which is Netflix’s third most popular movie of all time at 172.1M+ views all time.

The first project under Collet-Serra’s pact, announced in July 2025, was An Innocent Girl, a forthcoming Washington, D.C.-set psychological thriller starring and exec produced by Kerry Washington. Others upcoming include the high-concept action thriller The Cage, as well as Maelstrom, an actioner to star Reacher‘s Alan Ritchson. Netflix also snapped up Play Dead, a new WWII survival thriller from the filmmaker, earlier this year.
Most recently, Collet-Serra saw Vertical swoop in with theatrical release plans for his Cliffhanger reboot starring Lily James and Pierce Brosnan. Previously, the film had been tied up with embattled fledgling distributor Row K. Collet-Serra is repped by LBI Entertainment and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
Mendoza is the Navy SEAL turned filmmaker who, together with Alex Garland, wrote and directed A24’s critically acclaimed ensemble action-drama Warfare. More recently, he helmed Blood On the Promontory, a Western drama following five convicts shackled together by foot as they try to escape through the mountains following a violent train robbery. The film stars Sam Worthington, Jai Courtney, Jack Quaid, Jaeden Martell, and LaMonica Garrett. In television, Mendoza has worked on The Terminal List: Dark Wolf for Prime Video. He is repped by WME and Underground.
Brother scribes Charley and Vlas Parlapanides are best known as the WGA Award-nominated creators of Netflix’s adult animated series Blood of Zeus, which ran for three seasons. Additional credits include Immortals and Death Note. They are repped by Underground and Rob Szymanski of Eclipse Law.
Charnick is a UK writer based in Portugal who spent 19 years as a Special Forces operator and another six as an MI6 agent. When he retired from active duty, he became a much-sought-after technical adviser on a host of military and espionage projects for major U.S. studios and Nntworks. Currently, he’s adapting Cape Disappointment for FTVS with G-Base producing and developing two original series, one with Blink49 and another with Easy Tiger. Since turning his hand to writing, he has sold spec screenplays and TV pilots to Warner Bros., Sony, Alcon, Stonehouse, ABC, Fox, Sky Atlantic and ITV. Other writing assignments have seen him work for Millennium Films and Scott Free. He’s with Range Media Partners, Paradigm, and Feig Finkel.
