Paramount Pictures is in early development on a sequel to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, the beloved rom-com starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, a source close to the project confirms to Deadline.
Hudson is producing alongside Stacey Sher. We’re told the intention is for her and McConaughey to star, though it’s very early days and there are no cast attachments as yet. There’s no logline yet for the sequel, nor a writer aboard the project, so stay tuned as things progress.
One of the most revisited studio rom-coms of the 2000s, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days watches as magazine writer Andie Anderson (Hudson) and ad executive Benjamin Barry (McConaughey) enter a relationship, each with a secret agenda: she wants to drive him away for a story, while he bets he can make her fall in love with him in 10 days. Their schemes are foiled when real feelings enter the picture.
Donald Petrie directed the film, which released in February 2003, grossing over $178M worldwide. Kristen Buckley, Brian Regan and Burr Steers penned the script, with Lynda Obst, Robert Evans and Christine Peters producing.

Also a two-time Oscar nominee, producer Sher’s recent credits include A24’s Heretic and Chris Pine’s Poolman. Upcoming, she has Michael Showalter’s Amazon MGM thriller Verity, adapting the Colleen Hoover novel, out Oct. 2. There’s also David Fincher’s sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which releases in Imax on Nov. 25 before making its way to Netflix on Dec. 23.
Variety was first to the news of the How to sequel.
