Seattle Seahawks Sold To Vinod Khosla-Led Group For Record $9.6B

Seattle’s reigning Super Bowl champs have found a new owner in a Vinod Khosla-led group.

On Saturday, the group’s deal to purchase the Seahawks for a reported $9.612 billion was announced, a record-breaking price tag for an NFL franchise, which the current owners will have to approve during a special meeting in late August, according to ESPN.

As part of the deal, which would make the Khosla family the controlling owners of the Seahawks, they will be required to relinquish their stake in the San Francisco 49ers, the outlet reported.

“We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks,” said Khosla in a statement. “We look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created and to earning the trust of the Seahawks organization and fans everywhere.”

Following this year’s Super Bowl LX, in which the team defeated the New England Patriots 29-13, the estate of late Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen put the Seahawks up for sale. As part of Allen’s wishes, his sister Jody is expected to donate the proceeds to charity.

Before his death in 2018, Allen purchased the Seahawks from Ken Behring in 1996.
