Stephen Colbert Endorses Jimmy Kimmel For Emmy

Last year, Jimmy Kimmel threw his Emmy support behind Stephen Colbert after CBS axed The Late Show.

The ABC host put up a billboard in LA, saying, “I’m voting for Stephen.”

It clearly helped as Colbert picked up his first Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series last September as host of the storied CBS franchise.

Now, Colbert is doing the same for Kimmel, albeit slightly later in the voting window.

Colbert posted a video on Instagram with him seemingly sat by cliffs or “the end of the world”.

“There’s 24 hours left in Emmy voting, and if you’re anything like me, you haven’t even started yet. So, let’s get going. First up, we have Outstanding Variety Series. Kind of a weird voting system this year, but you know, I think we can all agree that Jimmy Kimmel deserves an Emmy. I don’t care if you’ve never even seen his show. You know he deserves an Emmy. Besides, look how cute he is. Anyway, please consider thinking that Jimmy deserves an Emmy. I do. I love you,” he said.

It comes a couple of weeks after CBS made its own Emmy push for The Late Show with a star-studded video that featured many clips of Colbert’s late-night peers including Kimmel, John Oliver, Jon Stewart, David Letterman, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon and Andy Cohen alongside stars such as Bette Midler, Drew Barrymore, William Shatner and Oprah Winfrey.

As Colbert noted in the video, this year’s voting process is slightly unusual as all five entries in the category – Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show, Saturday Night Live and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver – all stand a chance of winning as the category has been designated as an area award, meaning that multiple shows could potentially win.

Voting closes this evening at 10pm.
