Tom Holland Recalls Seeing ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Cut He “Hated”: “It Totally Didn’t Work”

As Tom Holland swings back into theaters this weekend with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he’s recalling a version of the movie that remained in the multiverse.

The Peter Parker actor noted he and his co-stars have “seen loads of different cuts” of his latest MCU outing, which premieres Friday in theaters, including one they “hated.”

“What’s really interesting is, we’ve seen loads of different cuts of this movie, and one of the cuts was, they took all of the notes from all of the random people that saw the film, and they changed the movie,” he told Quotable. “And then, we watched it and we hated it.”

Holland added, “It totally didn’t work. And it’s what the people were asking for, but it wasn’t quite what we wanted as the creatives. But they learned lessons from that experience. So, a movie can change in a thousand different ways in the edit room.”

Reprising his role as the titular web-slinger in his fourth solo outing in the MCU, Holland previously noted he was invited into the writers’ room of the Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers-penned sequel, which is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland reprises his role as the titular web-slinger alter ego of Peter Parker, four years after Dr. Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) spell that made the world forget him. Now anonymously protecting New York City as Spider-Man, while his powers go through a strange and dangerous evolution.
