Woody Allen To Start Shooting Next Project In Spain In October 

Woody Allen will begin production on his next feature project in Spain in October. 

We’re told the project, which is estimated to have a budget of around $14M, will be largely English-language and feature a high-profile cast that is still coming together. Madrid-based Wanda Vision and Allen’s banner, Gravier Production, are producing the title alongside 3SIX9. 

The currently untitled film will be Allen’s first since 2023’s Coup de Chance, which was produced in France and debuted at Venice. It was first reported last year in the Spanish daily El País that the film had secured €1.5 million ($1.7 million) in funding from Madrid’s regional government. 

The funding document stated that the funding would be staggered and tied to different stages of the project, such as the official announcement of filming in Madrid, the start of shooting, and that Madrid had to appear in the film’s title. 

Allen, who turned 90 last year, told The Guardian newspaper in 2023 that he currently finds the process of raising money for a film “a pain in the neck.”

He added, however: “But if someone shows up and calls in and says we want to back the film, then I would seriously consider it. I would probably not have the willpower to say no, because I have so many ideas.”

This project will be Allen’s third production shot in Spain after Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) and Rifkin’s Festival (2020), the latter set against the backdrop of the San Sebastian Film Festival.

No details on the plot or cast for the new film have been unveiled yet.
