EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios is extending its relationship with bestselling novelist Anna Todd with House of Crowns, a series adaptation of her forthcoming romance novel of the same name, sources tell Deadline.
Not yet dated for publication, House of Crowns is set at an elite boarding school in Switzerland where royalty and world leaders send their children. When a poor outsider there on scholarship and a gilded heiress with dangerous secrets fall into a forbidden love, it could shatter them both.
Reps from Amazon MGM declined comment. We’re told the project, in early development, is coming out of the company’s UK division.
Elinor Cook has been tapped to adapt the book, amid work on Boys of Tommen, Amazon’s series adaptation of Chloe Walsh’s bestselling book series. While unconfirmed, sources said Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay of Ethea Entertainment (After franchise, The Last Sunrise) will produce, alongside Lena Roklin (The Last Sunrise, Clashing Through the Snow) of Luber Roklin, and Will Gould of Moonage Pictures. Todd will be an executive producer.

We’re told that House of Crowns was bought preemptively by Nicole Clemens, VP & Head of International Originals at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, and Gemma Brandler, Scripted Commissioning at Amazon Studios.
Todd’s involvement as EP continues her transition from New York Times bestselling author to filmmaker. Known for her After franchise, a romance series which has sold over 12 million copies worldwide in 35 languages, she served as writer and producer on the five films inspired by the books, which together grossed $170M at the worldwide box office and later topped Netflix’s charts. Todd’s recent producing credits include the Colleen Hoover adaptation Regretting You and Prime Video’s adaptation of her novel The Last Sunrise, which Amazon MGM is eyeing a sequel for, per our recent reporting. That romantic drama, starring Maia Reficco and Fernando Lindez, premieres August 26.
Todd founded Frayed Pages Media in 2017 to develop IP across film, television, and publishing, including the Frayed Pages x Wattpad Books imprint launched in 2022. The adaptation of House of Crowns marks her first foray into television. She is repped by Flavia Viotti of Bookcase Literary Agency and Eric Brown of Eric S. Brown Law PLLC.
An up-and-coming writer whose earlier credits include Killing Eve, Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale and The Essex Serpent, Cook is repped by Emily Hickman at The Agency UK and Gabby Lewis at Untitled.
