HBO Max‘s Rooster has stacked up the guest stars for its upcoming second season: O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale, Presumed Innocent), Sutton Foster (Younger, The Music Man), Lamorne Morris (Fargo, Spider-Noir), Zavior Phillips (Bad Monkey) and Michael Urie (Shrinking; Oh, Mary!).
Viewers familiar with series creator Bill Lawrence cinematic universe might remember that Urie, who stars in Shrinking, had a whole monologue about adopting a baby in which he thought about naming it Sutton after Sutton Foster or reversing the name if the baby were a boy. Lo and behold, the baby girl arrived, and her name is Sutton. It will be interesting to see if Rooster nods to this at all.
Rooster is set on the Ludlow College campus, where author Greg Russo’s (Steve Carell) daughter Katie (Charly Clive) teaches art history. Greg visits for a guest lecture in Season 1 and is offered a visiting professorship and seminar by Ludlow College president Walter Mann (John C. McGinley). Despite Greg’s daughter wishing he would let her figure out her complicated marriage to Russian studies professor Archie Bates (Phil Dunster) by herself, he takes the offer to try to help her out.
