EXCLUSIVE: Miramax is developing a feature adaptation of Everything We Never Said, Alloy Entertainment‘s YA romantic thriller novel from Sloan Harlow, with Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer aboard to adapt the screenplay.
Published by G.P. Putnam’s Sons in 2024, Everything We Never Said follows Ella Graham, who, in the wake of her best friend Hayley’s death, finds herself falling for Hayley’s boyfriend, Sawyer. But when Ella sorts through her late friend’s belongings and uncovers her diary, she’s rattled by the secrets Hayley kept and learns she might be walking into something much darker than she realized.
Harlow’s novel lit up BookTok, making bestseller lists from both the New York Times and USA Today, and being named a Barnes & Noble Young Adult Book of the Month. Alloy’s president and chief creative officer, Leslie Morgenstein, and executive vice president of theatrical film production, Elysa Koplovitz Dutton, will produce the feature take. Arianna D’Andrea is overseeing the project for Miramax.

Everything We Never Said was developed by Alloy Entertainment’s New York-based book division, then licensed to G.P. Putnam’s Sons for publishing, with Alloy retaining film & TV rights. This is the same model Alloy has employed for hit series including The Vampire Diaries, Netflix’s You, Gossip Girl and the Pretty Little Liars franchise, and films including the Adam Sandler-produced You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.
Andelson and Meyer are the writers and creators of the Netflix series Trinkets, which won three Emmy Awards for Best Young Adult Program and Best Writing for a Children/Young Adult Program. Previously, they adapted F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic The Great Gatsby for 20th and director Jon M. Chu. Additionally, they wrote the screenplays for Chu’s Step Up 3D, as well as the romantic dramedy Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List, directed by Kristin Hanggi and starring Victoria Justice and Pierson Fodé. Their YA novel Layover was released in 2018, after being sold in a bidding war to Random House. They are repped by Artists First and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
