EXCLUSIVE: Blacklight Global Entertainment has acquired U.S. distribution rights to We’re Nothing At All, the latest film from prolific Hong Kong filmmaker Herman Yau, starring Patrick Tam, Anson Kong and Ansonbean.
The deal was negotiated by Janice Leung on behalf of Blacklight Global Entertainment and Hong Kong-based Golden Scene on behalf of the filmmakers.
Blacklight will launch the film’s U.S. release with a series of special screenings and theatrical engagements beginning in Los Angeles in October 2026, including a West Coast Premiere on October 10 at The Culver Theater.
Written, directed and produced by Yau, the self-financed film had its world premiere at this year’s Hong Kong International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Choice Award. It also make its North American premiere at New York Asian Film Festival.

The film follows a retired forensic expert investigating the explosion of a double decker bus that resulted in the deaths of multiple passengers. All the evidence points to a deliberate act by two of the victims: Fai and Ike, a gay couple from troubled backgrounds living on society’s margins.
The forensic expert starts to piece together the young men’s relationship and the circumstances that brought them to that fateful day, revealing a story shaped by abuse, homophobia, social alienation and despair.
“We’re Nothing At All is the kind of film that stays with you long after you leave the theater. Beneath the mystery at the center of the story is an incredibly human portrait of people who are too often overlooked or pushed to the margins,” said Janice Leung, Managing Director of Blacklight Global Entertainment.
“Herman has made a film that is deeply rooted in Hong Kong, yet the questions it raises about love, belonging and how we treat one another are universal. We’re incredibly proud to bring the film to audiences in the United States.”
Yau has directed more than 100 films over a career spanning four decades, with credits including The Untold Story, Ebola Syndrome, Shock Wave, The White Storm 2: Drug Lord and Moscow Mission.
